How could Eve have been attracted to a serpent?
It would seem today that the appearance of a serpent would have caused Eve to recoil with dread. If that had been Eve’s reaction, she would have avoided the serpent. But the serpent then didn’t look the way it does today. It would have been one of the most beautiful of the created beings for the enemy to use it. Added to that fact, Eve was enchanted by hearing the serpent speak.
Because of the serpent’s role in being used by the Tempter to deceive Eve, God cursed it, consigning it to move on its belly and eat dust. That would imply that it neither moved on its belly nor ate dust before it was cursed. In its being curse, it assumed the image we have of it today so that its appearance would repulse man.
