The fiery furnace in the book of Daniel is well known with the names of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego (Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah). Daniel (Belteshazzar – Chaldean name) along with the three young men were rooted from the royal family of Judah and brought to the courts of King Nebuchanezzar for training during the Israel’s captivity.
During the training, the four were set apart from the rest including their meal as per Daniel’s objection. According to him, they were defiling themselves if they will eat the royal food and drink wine. The guards agreed in vegetables and water they demanded and it was on a ten-day trial period. At the end of the training the four young men were tested and declared none equal among the rest.
King Nebuchadnezzar erected a statue of himself and commanded everyone to fall down in worship when the instruments played. But Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego disobeyed. The action of the the three young men came to the attention of the king. The enraged king gave another chance but the young men refused to do so. As a consequence, the king ordered to heat up seven times the blazing furnace (which they were thrown – it was so hot that it killed guards who threw the three young men), this served as their punishment in disobeying the king.
To their amazement, the guards saw four men walking in the midst of fire. The three young men were not harmed, their bodies, robes and even a single strand of their hair.
Before they were obliged to bow down for the second time to the statue, they reiterated to King Nebuchadnezzar that the God they serve is able to save and rescue them from his hands.
The fourth man of the fiery furnace is the Son of God. He is the one who saved Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. He is the one who saved us all, shepherd of the lost, healer of the sick, kinsman redeemer and Father to the fatherless.
We heard your first cry of life on the 4th of December 1985 and the heavens heard our cries on the 4th of September 2009. You were able to Make Your Maker Proud. I know, we will meet again at the Eastern Gate and see for ourselves The Wonderful Fourth Face Man on the Fiery Furnace – our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
So long my brother.
